ABOUT US – HISTORY

The Buffalo Niagara Business Ethics Award (BNBEA) was established in 2007 to identify and honor companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical business practices in daily operations, management philosophies, and responses to crises or challenges.

Each year, BNBEA celebrates business ethics by honoring local companies who display business ethics both internally and externally. Finalists and award recipients are recognized at our annual celebratory luncheon event in May at which time the Crystal Award is presented to the recipient companies.

As a result of the early success of the annual BNBEA award program and other related educational and supporting activities, the Buffalo Niagara Business Ethics Association was created in 2010 and received New York 501(c)(3) status the following year.

The mission and purpose of the Buffalo Niagara Business Ethics Association is to foster, promote and recognize ethical business practices in the Buffalo Niagara Region.

In fulfilling its mission, the Association:
• Oversees and manages the annual BNBEA award program recognizing ethical business practices in the Buffalo Niagara region.

• Expands community awareness of business ethics through support of and participation in various programs, seminars and educational opportunities for students and businesses.

Each year, BNBEA seeks nominations from the general community for companies with fewer than 50 employees, 50-150 employees and over 150 employees. A business may be nominated for an award by a customer, client, employee, vendor, company or a private citizen who is impressed with a company’s demonstration of ethical business conduct. Nomination Forms are available and can be submitted through the BNBEA website.

Nominated companies are required to provide documentation of “ethics-in-action” at their company. BNBEA invites all nominees to an orientation program where the application process is reviewed and mentors are assigned to assist in completion of the award application.

The applications are reviewed preliminarily by Canisius College MBA students who recommend three finalists in each business sized categories. An independent panel of judges consisting of local business leaders then selects one Crystal Award recipient in each category. Finalists and award recipients are recognized at our annual luncheon event in May.
